Google Search "Requirements to get married in Las Vegas"

PART 1 - Google Search Answers

I know I promised to answer the Google search questions in just a paragraph or two, but legalism is what it is and this question can’t be answered quickly.

In order for your marriage to be legally recognized, you’ll need a Las Vegas Marriage License which must be obtained prior to your wedding.  In 2019 the process to obtain a marriage license changed.  Now, you are required to fill out an online application (HERE) before you go in to pick your license up and both of you must appear in person before the Clerk at the Clark County Marriage Bureau location to pick up the documentation (see locations listed below).

A marriage license you obtain here in Nevada only allows you to marry in the state of Nevada. Also, the marriage license isn’t proof of marriage. A licensed wedding officiant must perform Vegas weddings.  And the officiant isn’t allowed to perform a legal marriage without that paperwork (we’ll talk about vow renewals in a later blog)

A marriage license is issued the same day a couple applies.

There is no waiting period to get married after the marriage license has been issued.

No blood testing is required to get a Nevada Marriage License.

Your Nevada Marriage License is valid for one year.  That means you must have a Nevada wedding ceremony within one year of obtaining the marriage license for it to be valid.  You must present some type of valid identification when obtaining your Nevada Marriage License before getting married in Nevada. Any of the following may be used:

     o Valid Drivers License

o U.S. or foreign country issued I.D. card showing your photo and birthdate's

     o Passport

     o Military Identification

     o Resident Alien Card

o Requirements for U.S. citizens and non U.S. citizens are the same.

The fee for a marriage license is $77.00 USD, payable by cash, cashier’s check, money order, or credit card.

You must be at least 18 years old to get married. Individuals 16 or 17 years of age, who want to marry, must have written parental consent from either their father or mother. This consent can be in person or with a notarized declaration.

Divorced applicants are required to list the Month/Day/Year when their divorce was finalized and the city and state where the divorce was finalized on that online form you fill out. The courthouse does not need to see a copy of the divorce decree. Widowed applicants are required to list the Month/Day/Year they were widowed and the city and state. The courthouse does not need to see a copy of the death certificate.
